When big brother put H D Kumaraswamy in the cabinet mode'

The cabinet is also likely to discuss a proposal to extend the service of Chief Secretary K. Ratna Prabha till September 30.

BENGALURU: It pays to be the domineering elder sibling of the Chief Minister! It’s true in the case of public works minister H D Revanna who reportedly coerced his younger brother and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to convene a meeting of the cabinet on Friday, the first since the Congress-JD (S) coalition took over the reins on May 23.

Official sources said that three of the four subjects listed for discussions on Friday are connected with Mr Revanna’s portfolio, public works, and to his constituency, Holenarasipura, in his home district, Hassan. Another subject concerns guidelines for transfer of government officials. Therefore Mr Revanna mounted pressure on Mr Kumaraswamy to chair a meeting of the cabinet on Friday.

Sources said that Mr Kumaraswamy yielded to pressure from his elder sibling though he was miffed about the interruption in discussions with heads of various departments ahead of his maiden budget scheduled for presentation early next month. The cabinet is also likely to discuss a proposal to extend the service of Chief Secretary K. Ratna Prabha till September 30.
