Andhra Pradesh: Sultry weather continues

Heat wave conditions prevailed at isolated places in Guntur and Kurnool districts on Sunday.

Visakhapatnam: Even though there was a 10C to 20C drop in the maximum temperatures compared to Saturday, Andhra Pradesh continued to reel under extremely warm weather conditions on Sunday. Heat wave conditions prevailed at isolated places in Guntur and Kurnool districts on Sunday.

According to the IMD, Ongole registered the highest maximum temperature of the day at 43.40C, followed by Bapatla at 43.20C, Kurnool 43.20C, Nandyal 430C, Kavali 42.90C, Nandigama 42.40C and Vijayawada 42.40C.

However, sporadic thundershowers occurred in isolated places in the evening. Sattenapalle in Guntur got about 3cm rainfall, followed by Pamur and Kanchikacherla 2cm each.

Meanwhile, an upper air cy-clonic circulation has formed over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining Odisha and this is expected to take the form of a low pressure in the coming two days.

According to the weathermen, the system may head towards coastal Andhra Pradesh and bring some relief from the ongoing heat wave conditions. According to the IMD’s weather bulletin, light to moderate thundershowers will occur at isolated places over the state in the coming few days, including on Monday. At the same time, it has warned the people of 3 to 40C above normal temperatures across the state on Monday.
