Bengaluru: Vehicle towed away? No need to fret

Police to put up boards with address of the designated spot where such vehicles will be parked.

Bengaluru: After their vehicles get towed away for parking and other violations, the motorists have a tough time finding exactly where their vehicles were being kept by the police.

They end up going to various places before they figure out where their vehicles are, before they can pay the fine and get it released.

In order to reduce their misery, the City traffic police have now asked the jurisdictional police to put up boards with address of the designated spot to which the vehicle has been towed away.

A senior traffic police officer said, “We had been receiving numerous complaints, both in person and through various social media sites, about the delay in getting back the towed vehicles, as the motorists are not aware where the vehicles have been taken.”

The motorists also complained they had tough time finding their vehicles. “The traffic constables would tell them that the vehicles would be parked near the police station and when they go there, the officials would ask them to go to another area where the vehicles are parked,” the official added.

This has created confusion and the motorists were blaming the traffic police officials for making them run around unnecessarily, the official observed.

The issue was brought to the notice of the senior police officers, who asked the jurisdictional police stations to submit them a list of designated place where all the towed vehicles would be parked and it should also be convenient for the motorists to reach and pay the fine to get their vehicles released, mentioned the officer.

“As and when the spots were mentioned, a recee was conducted to check the feasibility and convenience for the motorists, as we did not want them to travel long distance to get their vehicles released,” the officer added.

R Hithendra, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said, “We have directed the inspectors of the traffic police stations across the city to put up the board mentioning the address of the place where towed vehicles were parked along with the inspector's contact number. They will also put the information boards in main junctions of their jurisdictions. The work is being carried out and within a couple of days, the information board will be erected at all the traffic police stations.”

“A few traffic police stations like KR Puram, Adugodi and others have already put up the information board and the motorists are finding it easy for to know the location where vehicles are been kept,” Hithendra added.

The public have also welcomed the move and appreciated the efforts of the traffic police.

Praveen Nair, a fashion designer, said that the idea should have been implemented long back.

“Unlike before, we now know where exactly the vehicles are taken by the traffic police. If not we had to waste more than an hour just to know the place where the vehicles are kept,” Nair added.
