Tirupati: Vengavasi Ashwini, a nursing student from A.N.R. Colony in Renigunta mandal, Chittoor district, has been chosen as Ashoka youth venturer for educating tribal communities on personal hygiene and reproductive health.
In order to encourage children to initiate a change towards a better tomorrow, Child Rights and You (CRY), along with its partner organisations like Pragathi, has been facilitating education to children, so as to enable them to stand up for their peers and build a better tomorrow.
To encourage the participation of youth in transforming societies, these organisations has been felicitating the youth, who contribute in educating tribal communities. In this regard, Ms Ashwini received Ashoka Youth Venture reward on Monday.
Sharing her initiatives, Ms. Aswini said: “In college, I learnt science and adolescent healthcare. This helped me understand the myths and wrong beliefs existing in our community. Adolescent girls in my community are facing many health problems due to lack of awareness on personal hygiene. When I started pursuing B.Sc. Nursing, I could identify the various practices, resulting in these problems.”
At the award function, Suma Ravi, Regional Director (South), CRY said, "Ashwini's achievement sets an ideal example for the youth across the country. Education is a non-negotiable entity. A child in school is a child free from labour and marriage. It also builds leaders for tomorrow who will make a lasting impact and usher in a positive change in the society."
