Ooty: Drain spillover at bus stop creates a stink

If the Nilgiris district administration pays attention to this issue as residents here wanted the issue to be addressed soon.

OOTY: The stagnating stormwater at Charring Cross bus stop here adjacent to the post office, has turned woeful for passengers as rainy days would always bring an agonizing experience to those who wait for buses or alight from them.

The very look at the environs there would show that stormwater drain maintenance is very poor as both the national highway administration and the municipal administration here have failed to apply their mind to address this problem, and find out an alternative to make this busy stop a comfort zone for passengers.

The problem is with the clogged drainage channel that runs from nearby Ooty NH on the Coonoor road to Charring Cross bus stop, that during rainy days it always results in stormwater spilling over the road and getting stagnated near the bus stop, spreading a stink around the area.

As Ooty-bound buses from Coimbatore and Kotagiri stop at this bus stop, it would be a dreadful experience for passengers during rains as they would virtually wade through the stagnating water to move to other side. Same is the case for those who try to board buses, as they too are forced to wade through the dirty water to board the bus.

Though this is not a big issue to take more time to solve, concerned civic body officials and the national highway administration lack the will to address this issue. It would benefit, if the Nilgiris district administration pays attention to this issue as residents here wanted the issue to be addressed soon.
