Hyderabad Triathlon to have something for all

The Hyderabad Triathlon is back for its tenth edition and will be held on November 10.

Hyderabad: Fitness enthusiasts and lovers of sport events in the city can rejoice. The Hyderabad Triathlon is back for its tenth edition and will be held on November 10.

The triathlon is one of the sporting world’s toughest disciplines. It tests a person’s endurance, speed, skill and strength at three events back-to-back – swimming, running and cycling. As an event, the Hyderabad Triathlon is not limited to professional athletes, extreme sports lovers and experts – and organisers say they have tailormade the event with several legs, in which even little children can take part.

Participants have a myriad challenges to choose from.

The smallest triathlon challenge is dubbed mini (one km run, four kms cycling, 50 metres swim); the novice challenge comes next (two kms run, 8 kms cycling, 300 metres swim). The organisers of the event emphasize how these two challenges can be taken up by almost anyone.

Those looking for a meatier challenge can opt for the Half-Ironman (21.1 kms run, 90 kms cycling, 1.9 kms swim). Participants who do not own bicycles can rent them from the organisers.

Of course, not everyone in this city might know how to swim. Don’t worry. The organisers have an answer for this too. Such participants can opt for the Duathlon challenges. The mini (one km run, four km cycling) and novice (two kms run, eight kms cycling) challenges are, according to the organisers, the simplest of the entire event.

“The whole family can take part in the Dualathon mini and novice challenges,” they say. For those who do not wish to ride a bicycle, the event also has Aquathlon challenges with only swimming and running.

The timings of participants will be measured electronically, with no need for human intervention, using RFID chips in their race bibs.

The organisers expect at least 1,200 participants and 3,000 spectators onthe race day. As many as 400 volunteers are expected to work as support staff along the race route.

There would be aid stations along the running and cycling routes where participants can get medical attention, if needed. Based on the challenge, the event venues allotted to participants would either be the GMC Balayogi Stadium in Gachibowli or the ICFAI Business School in Shankarpally.
