Vijayawada: Shelter homes bear the brunt

Denny Isak, Secretary of APCPN, said: We have filed a petition in the High Court against the harassing officers.

Vijayawada: Children’s home organisers say that they face trouble with ignorant officers who were trying to close down the homes based on the orders of the Supreme Court.

AP Child Protection Network (APCPN) president Kiran Paul alleged that due to the over-enthusiasm of the officers, the children rescued from human trafficking face trouble in the society and they might again become victims of traffickers.

“The officers who do not have any idea about child laws are harassing the organisers of child homes,” Mr Paul said. Denny Isak, Secretary of APCPN, said: “We have filed a petition in the High Court against the harassing officers.”

He said that the officers had issued licenses to 840 child homes after issuing temporary licenses for 5 years. He alleged that the officers were harassing them for the past 3 months and that they had issued licenses to private hostels treating them as child homes.

APCPN state coordinator T.N. Seshan said, “According to the National Survey, human trafficking is increasing in AP. Even in this situation officers are harassing the organisers of child homes.”
