Chennai: While predicting that the period between Sept.25 and Oct.30 will witness fairly widespread rainfall and southern States will get maximum benefits during the above period, S. Ramachandran, astro-meteorologist, asserts that Tamil Nadu will end up with excess rainfall this year.
Though there is likely to be heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period, there will be a change in the weather pattern after Oct. 24 with the possibility of a cyclone in the Arabian sea. While southern districts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala will get heavy to moderate rainfall, moderate in Central and light rain in North Tamil Nadu is forecast, says Ramachandran, in his annual weather forecast for this year, predicted during July 2017.
The period between October 31 and November 26, 2018, will witness squally winds with thunderstorms. During this period winter will set in and the night temperatures will be near normal. But fairly widespread rainfall is also forecast. While southern districts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala get heavy to moderate rainfall, moderate in Central and light rain in North Tamil Nadu is forecast. There is sure possibility of a severe cyclone during the above period. Important dates of cyclone/ thunderstorm activity is between November 5 and 10 (around Nagapattinam), between November 13 and18 (Severe cyclone around Nagapattinam) and between November 22 & 26. More widespread rainfall is forecast for the period between November 27 and December 31. During these period southern districts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala will get more rainfall and moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast for Central Tamil Nadu. Severe flooding during this period is forecast. He predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall (requiring precautionary measures) between November 29 & December 2, December 5 and 10, between December 12 &17, between December 21 & 24 and adds look for a cyclone between December 29 and January 1, 2019. “This system will cross the coast between Tuticorin and Tondi,” Ramachandran says.
