Dange! Rise against BJP, says H D Kumaraswamy

Mr Kumaraswamy said he had undergone a different kind of torture when the JD(S) and BJP were partners in a coalition government about a decade back

HASSAN: An angry Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday warned the BJP to mend its way and restrain itself while commenting on his father, former PM H.D. Deve Gowda and his family saying he could even ask people to rise in revolt against the saffron party if it continued its attempts to destabilise his government. "You have been observing the developments in the state for over a fortnight, BJP leaders have been disturbing the smooth functioning of the coalition government. If the BJP continues to destabilise the government, I will give a call to the people to revolt against it," said Mr Kumaraswamy while issuing the veiled threat to the opposition party.

"He (Yeddyurappa) gave a statement in Hubballi that his sole objective is to finish off father-sons (a reference to Deve Gowda and his sons) and send them to jail. Finally what happened? Who finally went to jail?" asked the chief minister while launching various development works at Channarayapatna taluk in Hassan. Mr Yeddyurappa had gone to jail in 2011 after resigning as CM, in a land denotification case.

"I cannot sit quiet observing the attempts to destabilize the government. I have already been CM once and I am aware of the BJP's political tactics. ...No one should stoop to such a low level in politics," he said. "If you (Yeddyurappa) dig too much (into our affairs), then we too have many things at our disposal. The government is in our hand. Don't I have the authority to do whatever I can? I caution him to be careful," a visibly upset CM told reporters adding, "you are sitting in a glass house. Exercise restraint while talking. Seriousness is expected from a person of your age."

Later at Udayapura in Channarayapatna, Mr Kumaraswamy said he had undergone a different kind of torture when the JD(S) and BJP were partners in a coalition government about a decade back. "I was under pressure when I was CM then, now, it's a different kind of pressure."Despite being under pressure, I will not run away from my responsibility of doing good work," he remarked. "Our family has risen from the panchayat level to the Red Fort (his father H.D. Deve Gowda was PM)..... "Do not speak lightly about our family," he said in a subtle warning to Congress leader and former minister A. Manju, who had recently levelled land grab allegations against his family members.
