NEEDAMANGALAM: The Needamangalam-based ”Green Needa”, which is fighting for groundwater protection and tree plantation and 'Jeddah Tamil Sangam' in Saudi Arabia jointly restored a water tank for public use.
The tank had been abandoned without any public care at Karanur village near Needamangalam in Tiruvarur district, and its restoration now by the NGO received overall appreciation from the people of the village.
In a release at Needamangalam on Tuesday, 'Green Needa' founder M. Rajavelu said with the help of an earthmover, "we strengthened all the four side bunds, besides de-silting the tank that is seven-ft high. The water tank located on a one acre site, if filled with rainwater, will help to increase the groundwater potential, supplying water to five overhead tanks, agricultural pump-sets, besides to the local population for day-to-day use.
Among others, Green Needfa's K R K Janaki Raman, office-bearers of the Jeddah Tamil Sangam, Messrs Sirajdeen, Abdul Ajiz, Rafia, Vijayan and Ramanan personally supervised the restoration of the water tank work for the last three days and the work was completed today....
