Hyderabad: Pushing aside other problems, the recently elected BJP parliamentarian D. Aravind took up the issue of changing the name of the district from Nizamabad to Induru. “There has been a rising demand from the people of the district to re-name Nizamabad as Induru,” he said, claiming that the present name was inauspicious.
Explaining his standpoint, he said, ”People of Nizamabad feel that the name Nizamabad is inauspicious. Projects named after the Nizam have seen the end. The Nizamsagar project has dried up; the Nizam Sugar factory is not operational. The farmers driven by sentiment feel that the name has brought no good to them and are now demanding a change of name.”
