Team from Thiruvananthapuram to clean Chengannur

350 volunteers aim to clean 500 houses in three days.

Thiruvananthapuram: A team of 350 volunteers, assigned by Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, will set out for Chengannur to support the cleaning operations. They aim to clean 500 houses in three days. This was announced in a press meet by Mayor V.K. Prasanth.

They will form teams, each of which will have 6 people. Apart from the volunteers, people with expertise in electrical, plumbing and carpentry will also be part of the team. The volunteers will have received training to work in the disaster-affe-cted areas. The corpor-ation has sought the help of health department to ensure this. In addition, the volunteers will be accompanied by a medical team with medicines and necessary medical tools.

The teams will be provided with generator, jet-sprayer, bleaching powder, chlorine tablet, masks, gloves, gum-boots, wood cutter, pump set, garden hoes, baskets and vacuum cleaners.

Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has been su-pporting the relief operations, in various ways. It had started a control ro-om on August 15 and ope-ned a relief collection ce-ntre on August 16. Green Army, a network of you-ngsters, with other volunteers, have been supporting the collection operations. Together they have collected more than 40 loads of materials which were sent to Chalakudy, Changanassery, Chenga-nnur, Kayampkulam, Har-ippad, Adoor, Alappuzha, Aryad, Mannanchery and Kattappana, according to Mayor V.K. Prasanth.

The corporation had also started collection of medicines and put together a system to distribute it. If a doctor prepares a list of medicines requ-ired, and the list is attested by panchayath president, municipal chairman and corporation mayor, it can be sent to tvmmayor@gmail.com or a WhatsApp message can be sent to 93886-82432.
