Landslides hamper Shiradi Ghat road repair work

Restoration work is being hampered by frequent landslides in the section.

Hassan: The Shiradi Ghat section of National Highway 75, which links Mangaluru with Bengaluru via Sakleshpur, will take some more time to be thrown open for traffic. Restoration work is being hampered by frequent landslides in the section. The officials closed the Shiradi Ghat stretch for traffic on August 15 based on Assistant Commissioner of Sakleshpur Lakshmikanth Reddy's order.

Lakshmikanth Reddy told Deccan Chronicle said that the Shiradi Ghat stretch would be closed for traffic until further orders. No vehicles would be allowed on the Shiradi Ghat stretch till the restoration work was completed and the authorities felt that the road was safe for the vehicles, he said.

A Public Works Department engineer said that about 10,000 cubic metres of mud had collected on the road because of frequent landslides. Work was on to clear the road of mud. The work might get over in a few days and the stretch might be open for traffic after August 25 if Hassan Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri, Superintendent of Police Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad and other experts gave a green signal, the engineer said.
