COIMBATORE: Around 57 students, who were denied admission as they failed to produce accreditation certificate from The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) or a ‘No Objection Certificate (NOC)’ from the State government to obtain admission to postgraduate programmes at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), created a flutter at its campus here on Monday.
Speaking to DC Dr K. Ramasamy, TNAU vice-chancellor said, “the PG admissions at TNAU were called for with an eligibility condition that only candidates from state agricultural universities / ICAR accredited Institutes will be admitted as per PG admission brochure 2018-19.
Furthermore, the candidates were allowed to appear for the written examination on condition that they will produce either NOC as per G.O.Ms.No.171, dated July 9, 2018 or ICAR accreditation certificate from the institute where they have last studied.”
He said the aspiring students gave an undertaking duly signed by them before the written examination was conducted. In addition, the short-listed candidates from non State Accreditated Universities (SAUs) / Non-ICAR accreditated Institutes were informed through website, e-mail and call letter. About 57 candidates who failed to produce the NOC or accreditation certificate were denied admission on Monday.
The vice chancellor added that on submission of NOC from state government or accreditation from ICAR, the admission of the short-listed candidates will be considered.
