Politician's son hits traffic cop, booked

Traffic was briefly stopped to make way for Mr Rao's convoy when Mrunal drove up in his car and demanded clearance.

Hyderabad: Congress leader Dasoju Sravan Kumar’s son Mrunal was booked for allegedly assaulting a traffic constable on duty.

Mrunal, who was driving his car, allegedly attacked constable Vijay Kumar of Madhapur police station who had stopped him from going ahead as Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s convoy was passing through Whisper Valley Junction in Raidurgam police limit.

Traffic was briefly stopped to make way for Mr Rao’s convoy when Mrunal drove up in his car and demanded clearance. Mr Vijay Kumar, who was deployed at the junction, stopped his stating that traffic would be allowed after a brief while. But Mrunal reportedly argued with him and said that he would take a U-turn ahead.

“Mr Vijay Kumar denied the U-turn. This led to a heated argument during which Mrunal assaulted the constable,” Raidurgam additional inspector Narsinga Rao said, quoting from the complaint.

Based on the complaint, police has booked a case against Mrulan for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duties.

Later, Mr Sravan Kumar lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Mr Vijay had assaulted Mrunal when he refused to pay a bribe of Rs 500. He said his brother and sister were travelling in the car at that time.

Asked about this complaint, police said the allegations against the constable were also being looked into.
