Krishna Pushkaralu: Water sports get a boost

Pilgrims to Krishna Pushkaralu enjoy sailing and games at Bhavani Island.

VIJAYAWADA: The pilgrims are enjoying the water sports and adventure games at the Bhavani Island located in Krishna River near Vijayawada. At the same time, Pushkaralu gave a boost to the tourism on the river. More than 5,000 tourists have been visiting per a day during the Krishna Pushkaralu, explained Mr K. Sridhar, assistant manager, AP Tourism Development Corporation at Bhavani Island.

He further said that it was only 500 to 1,000 tourists visiting the island during normal days and about 2,000 visit the island on week-ends. Unlike normal days, more than 70 per cent of the tourists have been participating in the adventure water sports including Jetski, speed boat, Banana ride, bumper and others, explained Mr G. Madan Mohan Rao, general manager (operations ) of Champions Yacht Club, the games operating company.

These games are being offered in collaboration with the AP Tourism Corporation by the private company, Mr Rao said. Parasailing is the most attractive game here at Bhavani Island, which is in the second place in India after Goa where this game is available, Mr Rao informed. He said that they have been offering altogether 21 water and adventure sports including Kayak, Swan Boat, Peddling, Water Cycling, Zorb Ball, Standup Peddling, Single Bumper, Speed Boat, four-seater bumper, Bay Liner, Leisure Boat, Thu-nder Wave, Solar boat, Paint Ball and others at the island.

He said that Amaravati River Cruise, which is also known as Tanvi, the house boat on the river, is another special attraction. On the other hand, the tourism department has been organising cultural programmes including Kuchipudi, Bharata Natyam and other comedy skits on the island for Pushkaralu.
