Hyderabad: 2 bribed cops in Eamcet case, nabbed

The arrested accused Mohd. Iqbal Khan, 29 was one of the prime suspects in the Eamcet case.

Hyderabad: CID police arrested one of the kingpins and the broker who bribed investigation officials in connection with the Eamcet-2 question paper leak case on Saturday. Police recovered Rs 16 lakh from the suspects.

DSP Balu Jadhav and head constable A. Sadashiva Rao, who were suspended on Friday for allegedly extorting money from the suspect, were attached to the police HQ till the departmental inquiry was complete.

The arrested accused Mohd. Iqbal Khan, 29, an education consultant from Palwal district of Haryana, was one of the prime suspects in the Eamcet case.

The second person arrested was Gummadi Venkatesh, 28, owner of Indo Global Med Educare Private Ltd, KPHB, who allegedly had bribed the DSP and the head constable to escape arrest.

According to CID officials, Iqbal, who ran an educational consultancy in Delhi and Bengaluru, conspired with others to leak the Eamcet-2 paper from a press in Delhi. “He arranged classes for 20 students at Bengaluru camp with the active connivance of others like G. Venkatesh,” said a CID official.

He said Venkatesh, from Repalle in Guntur took seven students to Kolkata with the help of his close associate, a Vijayawada native, who is at large. Venkatesh had been running the consultantcy for more than three years.
