Manjeri Government College to get better infrastructure

The college had lost the Medical Council of India (MCI) approval several times due to the lack of adequate infrastructural facilities.

MALAPPURAM: The long pending construction of the hostels and quarters complex at Government Medical College, Manjeri would begin within a month, college authorities said. The government had earmarked Rs 66.3 crore for the project, which comprises construction of six buildings to house the hostels for students and staff quarters. KITCO Limited is the undertaking agency of the project. It’s officials said that bidding processes have been completed and the site will be handed over to the Kochi-based builder within a month. Construction work is expected to finish within 15 months.

The hostel cum quarters complex will have separate hostels for boys and girls. Besides these, quarters for teaching and non-teaching staff, internal hostel and an auditorium will also be part of the complex. Once completed, the hostels in the complex will have a capacity to accommodate around 1,000 inmates.

Due to land constraints the building will have six storeys instead of three. The college had lost the Medical Council of India (MCI) approval several times due to the lack of adequate infrastructural facilities. The most recent rejection from MCI came earlier this month, which asked the College to renew the permission for the admission to 100 MBBS seats for the academic year 2018-19 after resolving the infrastructural deficiencies.
