UoH relief' for PhD aspirants

The Vice-Chancellor has issued orders to complete this process of clearing the backlog of PhDs in the University in a time-bound manner.

Hyderabad: The 81st Academic Council meeting held at the University of Hyderabad was a relief for PhD aspirants dealing with late submissions.

The university had notified a schedule for considering delayed PhD submissions. All such students will have to approach the Appeals Committee, headed by the Dean of Students’ Welfare, with suitable endorsement from their respective supervisors stating that the student was working on his/her thesis during the stipulated time, latest by March 24.

The committee will meet the research scholar and his/her supervisor between March 26 to March 28 to assess the status of the doctoral work and make appropriate recommendations on a case-by-case basis.

The Vice-Chancellor has issued orders to complete this process of clearing the backlog of PhDs in the University in a time-bound manner.

Each case will be passed by the Vice-Chancellor as well. Students have also been asked to pay a sum of Rs 5,000 for each delayed semester. The university authorities have stated that this time frame will be the last opportunity and that no further appeals would be entertained.

An undertaking will also be collected from the student stating that he/she had not submitted the thesis in any other university and will also have to specify the reason for the delay i.e. if he/she had failed to re-register or failed to submit the thesis after re-registration.

The students have whole heartedly welcomed this decision as a protest was held by all progressive parties on the campus to revoke the cancellation of many thesis submissions.
