Bengaluru: Flashy headlights to attract fines

A senior traffic police officer said, The high beam and power LED lights has become a nuisance in the city.

Bengaluru: Beware of using dazzling or flashy headlights and even riding or driving with high beam as the traffic police will be conducting special drives similar to the recent ones, which were carried out against modified silencers and registration number plates.

Before carrying out the drive, two personnel from every traffic police station will go to shops and garages and warn them against selling flashy and dazzling lights.

A senior traffic police officer said, “The high beam and power LED lights has become a nuisance in the city. We were penalising people for using high beam while driving or riding. But now, we have noticed that the motorists are also using high-powered LED lights, fancy ones and other type of lights, which blind those coming from the opposite direction. This is an offence and we have taken note of it.”

He added that they will be informing traffic police stations to warn shops and garages selling or fitting such lights. “We will give them a couple of weeks’ time and if they continue selling, we will book them. It is dangerous to use such lights as it results in accidents because motorists from the opposite direction are blinded,” he said.

Another officer mentioned that we carried out similar drives against modified silencers and registration number plates and it has been effective. “Similarly, we will carry out drive against the lights and the drives will be carried out during night time, as that is when we can find out if the motorist is using high power lights. Once we catch the motorists using these lights, we will dismantle it on the spot and impose fine,” he said.

The officer also pointed out that the drive against usage of high beam will also be intensified and we want to ensure that the motorists are educated on when to use high beams. “Most of them are not aware on when to use high beam lights and there is a need for awareness,” he added.
