Trinity Lyceum school gets new principal

The corporate manager of the school has given him additional charge of Trinity Lyceum.

KOLLAM: Fr. Silvie Antony was on Tuesday appointed as the new principal of Trinity Lyceum School here in place of Mr S. John who has resigned. The school was at the centre of a controversy following the death of Gauri Neha, 10th standard student, who jumped off the second floor of the school on October 20 last and died three days later. Fr. Silvie Antony is currently the principal of Infant Jesus School at Thangasseri. The corporate manager of the school has given him additional charge of Trinity Lyceum.

Two teachers who were accused of mentally torturing the girl had been suspended. But later the management revoked their suspension and they rejoined the school amid celebration by the other teachers. The principal was also accused of participating in the celebration. The DDE had sought an explanation from the school management about the celebration. Though it gave a reply, it was found unsatisfactory and the deputy director of education, Kollam, had recommended to the DDE to cancel the NOC of the school from the next academic year.

The police had planned to submit the chargesheet based on the investigation report on the death of Gauri Neha. The accused teachers, Sindhu Paul and Crescence Navis from Kollam, were charged with sections 511, 305 and 34 of IPC, including abetment of suicide, and sections under the Juvenile Justice Act for torturing the girl. The police are also investigating into the celebration held at the school based on a complaint submitted by the girl's father R. Prasannakumar. The chargesheet will be submitted after this, according to sources.
