Andhra Pradesh told to go easy on Dalai Lama

Baahubali director Rajamouli's name does not figure in the committee to design the capital, that is headed by Parakala Prabhakar.

Vijayawada: Opining that the state has focused too intensely on the promotion of Buddhism and the Dalai Lama in the name of the capital Amaravati, senior BJP leaders at the Centre have reportedly advised the government to slow down, keeping in view relations with China.

As part of the same strategy, the Parakala committee which has been formed to design the capital, has been advised to evolve a mix showcasing all cultures, according to Secretariat sources.

The dominance of the Buddhist culture would not be reflected in the designs to be finalised for the capital, a senior CRDA official said.

The designing experts associated with CRDA thought initially that these would be designed on the lines of internationally acclaimed fused grid model. “The Chinese and European models will not be there and similarly the impact of the Dalai Lama or Buddhism will be less on the designs. Only theme will be taken from them and Indian culture and heritage will be added as flavor to these cities,” the CRDA senior officer said.

While a total of 6,577 acres has been set aside within the cities for future purposes, the land which will have Legislative Assembly and Council, Secretariat buildings and head offices of various government departments, will be designed taking the structure of Magadha empire, the officer said, on condition of anonymity.

The heritage of Pataliputra (present day Patna) will be featured in the designs of residential buildings on 833 acres, entertainment and social requirements in 567 acres and for commercial establishments to be set up in 237 acres will have Maratha-Deccan models.

The AP High Court building, to be set up in Justice City, will be on the lines of court buildings designed by the Emperor Bhoja. Tourism city will be built on the lines of structures and designs taken from Vijayanagara of Sri Krishnadevaraya dynasty.

The Parakala committee will discuss Finance City, which was mentioned by Kautilya in his Arthasastra, according to sources. Maharaja Karan Singh’s associates also may be consulted over details related facilities for the Sports City.
