Hyderabad: The state government has set March 15 deadline for supplying Mission Bhagiratha water to all villages.

Chief Secretary S.P. Singh, who reviewed the progress of works on Saturday, took contractors to task for delaying the works.

Officials informed Mr Singh that Mission Bhagiratha water had reached 4,744 villages and in another 2,593 villages, tap connections to each household was given.

Mr Singh was irked by the slow pace of works in Suryapet and Adilabad segments.

"When the works are progressing fast in other districts, there is no reason why Surya-pet and Adilabad should lag behind. The reports from these districts reveal the negligence of contractors in sticking to deadlines,” Mr Singh said.

“The government will no longer tolerate this. Either you complete the works in time or face action. The government will not hesitate to cancel the contracts and put negligent contractors in blacklist,” he warned.

When the contractors, who were also present in the meeting, tried to explain the reasons for the delay, Mr Singh said, “Don’t give me lame excuses. I want results.:

Rural water supply ENC Surender Reddy, chief engineers Vijay Prakash, Jaganmohan Reddy, representatives of contract agencies GVPR, Mega and others were present.
Mr Singh asked chief engineers to be present in the field till the works are completed.
