VIJAYAWADA: The TD chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, has underscored the need for reforms at individual levels amongst the party leaders and elected public representatives. Addressing the TD coordination committee meeting at Velagapudi Secre-tariat on Saturday, Mr Naidu felt that this is the third reform, after Janmabhoomi Maa Vooru and Intintikee Telugu Desam initiatives. “This reform is highly difficult, but every leader of the party has to practise and imbibe the reforms,” the CM said.
After stating that his comments on approaching the Supreme Court about the fulfilment of the Reorganisation Act assurances were wrongly understood, Mr Naidu went on to say that certain quarters had wrongly concluded that TD was against the BJP. “Nothing can be achieved with confrontation,” Mr Naidu observed.
While mentioning about the Telangana CM Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s remarks comparing Andhra and Telangana in the wake of NITI Aayog vice chairman Mr Rajiv Kumar’s comments, Mr Naidu said that approaching the Supreme Court was the last option. Though that might be exercising a natural right, the CM said that he had had some positive indications over the delimitation from the Centre.
In the meeting, the TD National president drew parallels with Singapore and said that the ruling party had the best and most talented people and added that he wanted Andhra Pradesh and the TD to replicate that.
When the subject of Triple Talaq came about, the CM said that TD had acted as per the aspirations of Muslims on that particular issue. Lifting of subsidy for the holy pilgrimage of Haj was not appropriate, he felt and added that such decisions should be similar for all religions.
Speaking on SC upliftment, Mr Naidu said that “Dalita Tejam-Telugu Desam” is the new programme, to be launched in the last week of this month, in all the SC colonies.
Lambasting the leader of opposition indirectly, Mr Naidu observed that the people who did not know the budget were also continuously giving assurances.
Speaking on the MLAs strengths and weaknesses, he asked them not to deceive themselves and also him. He asked them to think beyond personal egos and learn how to mingle with people. He said that there were reports about the dissent amongst MLAs and also observed that confidence over the opposition party had been increasing amongst the public.
“If it is curbed at an early stage, it would be a minor operation, otherwise we have to go for a major operation,” he warned the MLAs. “If you are weak, party will become weak too,” Mr Naidu said.
Naidu to focus on ‘Road Blocks’
The TD National president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that his main focus was now on the Road Block Districts (RBDs) like Kadapa, Nellore and Prakasham, where the TD won 1, 3 and 5 segments only in the last Assembly elections. Stating that Congress voting had been shifted to YSRC and the opposition’s strength was the main reason for TD’s poor performance in those districts, he suggested to the leaders to be more vigilant as the elections were just a year and three months away. The voting difference was just 1.67 per cent in the last elections and but the gap had increased to 16 per cent, after Nandyal and Kakinada elections, he said.
It may be recalled that few social sections which were not with the TD in the last elections were now with the party, he said and added that party needed to be strengthened.
