Hyderabad: X'mas is vacation time for techies

Hyderabad techies have their itineraries set based on their travel tastes.

Hyderabad: With the holiday season round the corner, techies are planning to blow off in the long-awaited break. It’s time to ‘detox’ as they call it here, and it means different things to different people. Some want to party hard at beaches, and some others want to push their limits with trekking trips or ‘take-it-as-it-comes’ jaunts. Hyderabad techies have their itineraries set based on their travel tastes.

People who are trying to use up fully their leave quota before it lapses in the new year have been especially proactive in planning an all-out vacation. “There are four groups mainly that have made separate plans. I am going to Kanyakumari by road with my colleagues. There is another group of about 10 people who are going to Jaipur after they heard about its cleanliness and the cold weather,” says Mahender Yadav.

However, techies who do not have the luxury of taking long leaves are planning short trips. IT employee Srini Krishna said, “Since I am into applications support, I can’t really take long leaves. But in the two days that I’ll get, I look forward to visiting Laknavaram, with its hanging bridge being a major attraction. I went to Suryalanka beach around this time last year.”

There is an increase in numbers wanting to explore Telangana more. Sundeep Kumar Makthala, global president of Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) says, “Since the formation of a separate state, there has certainly been a change in the way techies perceive tourism in Telangana. Ear-lier there used to be fewer people wanting to see pla-ces like Warangal or Adil-abad etc., Anantasagar, Kuntala falls, Laknavaram, Ananthagiri hills, Vikarabad hilly area have become attractive options for a quick getaway.”

Some people still can’t have enough of good-old Goa and its extravagant Christmas parties. Quite a few are also headed for Bapatla or Araku Valley, considering their close proximity.

A few who’ve taken long leave are bound for a vacation abroad. “We have weeklong holidays, plus of course unused leaves to use. So my roommates and I have lined up a Europe tour,” says techie G. Gaurav, another one said is planning a holiday in Maldives along with colleague and their families.
