Hyderabad: Woman chose police over IT, tops S-I exam

Though I just wanted a government job, I learned a lot while training as a police officer, told Rama Devi.

Hyderabad: Maloth Rama Devi, belonging to an agricultural family chose the police department over the IT industry and stood as the Best All Round Cadet Sub-inspector, leading the 12 contingents during the Stipendiary Cadet sub-inspectors.

The 24-year-old woman hailing from Jannaram village in Khammam completed her engineering from Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies in Basar, in Telangana. After graduation, Rama Devi got a job with Infosys that paid her '28,000 per month. But, she chose to serve the public by joining the police.

Rama Devi cleared the police recruitment board examination and got selected as a police constable. Later, she also wrote the entrance examination for stipendiary cadet sub-inspectors and got selected for that too.

“After undergoing five months of police constable training, I again took the SI training for nine months. It was my would-be husband who motivated me to write the S-I examination even after I got selected as a police constable,” a proud Rama Devi shared with the media.

“Though I just wanted a government job, I learned a lot while training as a police officer,” told Rama Devi.

She was awarded Chief Minister’s Revolver for Best All Round Cadet S-I, Home Minister’s Baton with Silver End for Best Indoor Cadet SI, and Director General’s Medal for Best in Law and Order.and Internal Security subjects.

Another cadet SI, 27-year-old Khaja Lateefuddin from Moula Ali area was working for Amazon Development Centre in the city after graduation. Aspiring to become a police officer, Lateefuddin wrote the SI recruitment examination and cleared it. He stood also stood as Indoor topper.

“My father Shamshuddin is a retired head constable, my grandfather Khaja Raheemuddin was a retired constable and also my brothers are working in the police department. I wanted to become an IPS officer by cracking UPSC,” Lateefuddin told media.
