Tamil Nadu: Raids should not be for political purpose, says Congress

The BJP is using the I-T raids to weaken one faction of the AIADMK and strengthen the other faction to further its interests.

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Congress chief Su Thirunavukarasar on Sunday accused the BJP of trying to strengthen one faction of the AIADMK and weaken another through the Income-Tax department and asked it to “desist” from using government agencies to further its political interests. Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore airport, the TNCC chief said if the Narendra Modi government was really interested in rooting out corruption and black money, it should raid members belonging to both factions of the AIADMK.

“The BJP is using the I-T raids to weaken one faction of the AIADMK and strengthen the other faction to further its interests. Is the BJP sure that corruption has invaded only one faction? If they are serious about eradicating corruption and black money, they should raid leaders of both factions. Why target only a few for your political interests?” he asked.

Thirunavukarasar also suggested that the BJP was targeting only the V.K. Sasikala faction of the AIADMK and is using the EPS-OPS camp to get a foothold in Tamil Nadu. The TNCC chief has been voicing his opposition against the Income-Tax raids that targeted the Mannargudi Family calling it a “political vendetta.”
