John thomas to head Southern railways

Prior to the new posting, John Thomas, 57, was holding charge as additional general manager of the South Central Railways.

Kochi: John Thomas, belonging to the 1982 batch of Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), took charge as Additional General Manager of Southern Railway on Thursday.

Prior to the new posting, John Thomas, 57, was holding charge as additional general manager of the South Central Railways. He hails from Karuvatta in Alappuzha district.

He started his career with the Indian Railways in 1984 and in over three decades of service, has held several important assignments in various zones including on Southern, Central and South Central Railway.

Commencing his service as Assistant Electrical Engineer on Southern Railway in 1986, John Thomas went on to serve in several key posts including Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai, Chief Electrical Loco Engineer, Chief Projects Manager (Electrification), Chennai, Divisional Railway Manager, Sholapur, Central Railway and Chief Safety Officer, Southern Railway.

During his stint as Chief Electrical Engineer, SCR, John Thomas had initiated various innovative measures towards energy conservation leading to the zone achieving a record nine National Energy Conservation Awards for 2016 from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power.
