Thiruvananthapuram: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to conduct an intensive cleanliness drive across the state from September 22 to October 2 under the aegis of local bodies.
As part of this campaign, the biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste will be segregated and treated, besides waste would also be sent for recycling. The waste dumped in rivers, ponds and other water bodies would also be removed as part of the campaign.
The cleanliness activities will be carried out by coordinating the activities of the panchayat and urban affairs departments. Haritha Kerala Mission, Suchitwa Mission, Clean Kerala Company, Kudumbashree, National Rural Employment Guarantee Mission will provide the leadership at the district and state level.
The district-level cleanliness campaign will be coordinated by district collector, panchayat deputy director, Suchitwa Mission district coordinator. In schools, the cleanliness and Harithaotsavam programmes will be held with the cooperation of Haritha Kerala Mission. The general education department will also support these activities.
Steps would be taken for implementing green protocol in all Government Offices from November 1. The local bodies should take stern action against dumping of waste into water bodies.Those dumping waste in water bodies would be prosecuted under Kerala Irrigation and Water Conservation (Amendment) ordinance 2017, Kerala Panchayat Raj Act 1994 and Kerala Municipality Act 1994 and jailed.The ministers in charge of districts would be leading the cleanliness drive. Suchitwa mission will provide Rs 1 lakh for district level cleanliness drive. District collectors will ensure the participation of all departments. The additional quota of rice and kerosene supplied by Centre will be disbursed.
The government will implement drinking water scheme at Sabarimala at a cost of Rs 6.36 crore for supplying safe drinking water to pilgrims during the festival season. The KWA will start work related to the scheme at Pampa and Nilackal.
The Cabinet granted permission for starting helicopter services to Jatayupara as part of the tourism project.
