Telangana IAS officers go outskirts for investing into real estate deals

IAS and other bureaucrats declare their houses and land.

Hyderabad: The city’s outskirts seem to be the most preferred areas for investing into real estate deals of IAS officers in the Telangana cadre.

As per the Immoveable Property Returns filed by IAS officers for 2015, several officers purchased agriculture land, plots and flats in Hyderabad and surrounding districts like Ranga Reddy, Medak and Mahbubnagar.

Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma declared 5 acres in Shamshabad owned by his wife. CMO additional secretary Smitha Sabharwal, Mr Navin Mittal and Mr Burra Venkatesham declared that they did not own any asset.

Most properties appeared to be grossly under-valued going by the market rate prevailing in these areas.

Mr Rajiv Sharma owns a house on a 502-sq. yard plot in Prashasannagar in Jubilee Hills, a 222-sq. yard plot in Medchal and a 600-sq. yard plot in Maheshwaram. The value of the plot in Medchal has been shown as Rs 1,400 per sq. yard. Maheshwaram plot is Rs 1,300 per sq. yard.

The 5.3 acres land owned by his wife Smita Sharma in Shamshabad has been valued at Rs 8 lakh per acre.
