Bridges restored, Belthangady returns to normal

As many as 89 culvets and bridges were damaged.

Mangaluru/Karwar: Life is returning to normal in some parts of Belthangady taluk , which were left devastated by the recent heavy rains.

With the Kukkavu bridge washed away during the floods on August 9, people of several villages were forced to take a longer route to Ujire. But now the approach road has been restored thanks to the district administration’s quick response to the disaster.

Deputy Commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil tweeted photographs of the new road and appreciated how quickly the work had been completed,

With another bridge near Banjarumale too having been washed away, leaving the villagers cut off from the mainland, a steel footbridge has been constructed as a temporary measure in its place until a proper bridge can be built at the spot.

“We are working to ensure that no village is cut off. The problems at Kukkavu and Banjarumale have been solved. At Anaru we are making an alternative road shortly,” Mr Senthil said.

Uttara Kannada too has almost completed the repair and reconstruction of important bridges in the district, which had experienced heavy rain and flooding . As many as 89 culvets and bridges were damaged.
