Opposition leaders flay merger of AIADMK factions

The merger would only increase corruption in the state and would not bring any political or social change.

Chennai: Opposition leaders on Saturday flayed the merger moves of the two AIADMK factions as an attempt to share power and continue their corrupt activities.

TNCC leader S. Thirunavukkarasar, who spoke to the media, after meeting actor Rajinikanth to invite the actor for the wedding of his daughter said the merger was not meant for people's welfare.

He said the two factions were bargaining for share of power and blamed the BJP for the confusion in the AIADMK. He said the party split due the BJP and the saffron party is also behind the merger of the two factions.

The Congress leader said the BJP wanted to merge the two factions and form an alliance with them in the Parliament elections to gain a foothold in Tamil Nadu.
Echoing similar views, PMK founder S. Ramadoss said the two factions were merging only to continue their plunder of the state and asserted that people would teach a lesson to them soon.

The merger would only increase corruption in the state and would not bring any political or social change.

Joining the tirade, CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan recalled that former O. Panneerselvam had described government led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami as corrupt.

“Has Palaniswami become clean now? Reacting to the charge, one of the minister, C.V. Shanmugam had said Panneerselvam with the help of sand mining baron Sekhar Reddy indulged in swindling money. But, both the factions were talking of merger. What about the corruption charges they made against each other”, he asked.

Mutharasan said the AIADMK factions were only fighting for power and the BJP was deftly using the feud to the latter's own benefit.
