As nation celebrates PV Sindhu's silver medal, people Google her caste

Sindhu's caste has been searched the most by users from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

New Delhi: Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu may have garnered a lot of praise and adulation from the Indian public for her performance, but there are many who seem to be least bothered about her achievements. Instead, they choose to look at her in a completely different way.

A quick Google search for PV Sindhu reveals something shocking – that more than her performance, people seem to care about her caste. ‘PV Sindhu caste’ is one of the top searches for her name on Google.

Sindhu’s caste has been searched the most by users from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the states she belongs to.

Incredibly ‘Pullela Gopichand caste’ is also a frequently searched item on Google, showing that people are curious about the caste of her coach as well.

However, not just Indian residents, but also people settled in Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and the UAE have been at the top five spots in searching for the caste that Sindhu belongs to.

While Sindhu celebrates becoming the first Indian woman to win a silver medal at the Olympics, Indians continue to be more concerned with parochial matters such as her caste. And then some say that caste does not exist in modern India.
