Hyderabad High Court allows private colleges to make admissions on their own

Justice C. Praveen Kumar while granting the interim order was disinclined to accept the contention of the government.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has permitted certain private degree colleges that had approached the court to make admissions on their own. These colleges had challenged the notifications issued by the TS government prescribing the fee structure and making admissions through centralised online counselling.

Justice C. Praveen Kumar while granting the interim order was disinclined to accept the contention of the government that it had power to regulate the fee and admissions in private degree colleges under the Universities Act.

The judge felt that without constituting the fee regulation committee and without considering the income and expenditure of the colleges, fixing the fee structure was against the principles of natural justice.

The petitioners had challenged the notification issued on May 15, 2017m for online admissions and a GO issued on April 10, 2017 fixing Rs 12,000 as admission fee for the degree courses in private colleges.
