HC stays revenue secretary order in Ernakulam land case

The district collector, in his order, had also asked the private company to restore the filled-up land to its earlier status.

Kochi: The high court on Wednesday stayed the order of the revenue secretary favouring a private company owning 14 acres of land in Kunnathunadu in Ernakulam district. The revenue secretary had issued an order to overcome the order issued by the Ernakulam district collector refusing permission for filling up the paddy land.

The district collector, in his order, had also asked the private company to restore the filled-up land to its earlier status. The order of the revenue secretary had overruled the order of the district collector facilitating for the private company to fill up the paddy land. Social activist C.R. Neelakandan had approached the court seeking a stay on the order of the revenue secretary.

The government has informed the court that the order of the revenue secretary has been kept in abeyance temporarily. Taking all these factors into consideration the court issued a stay for the order of the revenue secretary.
