A source said that only the ones who come with a court permission and get vetted by the prison officials are allowed inside the cell.

BENGALURU: A special team from Maharashtra arrived in the city on Monday to question Amol Kale and Amit Degvekar, in connection with the murder of Govind Pansare, veteran CPI leader, said a source in SIT.

Sources in Special Investigation Team (SIT) said the team questioned Amol Kale and Amit Degvekar, on Tuesday in the presence of SIT officials. The SIT however refused to confirm or deny that the two men, being held in connection with the Gauri Lankesh killing had been grilled.

The Maharashtra Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder of CPI leader Govind Pansare on Tuesday said that so far it had no plans to seek custody of Parashuram Waghmare, the prime accused in journalist Gauri Lankesh’s killing. “At present we do not have any plan like that, but we could take him into custody during the course of our investigation,” a senior SIT official.

Meanwhile all the arrested in the sensational activist journalist Gauri murder have been kept at the high security barracks in Parappana Agrahara central prison. The source clarified that no special treatment was being given to the accused. "Food which is being cooked for the rest of the inmates is only served to them. Unlike others, these accused will not be allowed to step out of their cells."

Speaking to DC, a source said that only the ones who come with a court permission and get vetted by the prison officials are allowed inside the cell.

The official further added that all the accused are being kept under watch and extra care has been taken whenever they are being taken to court.

While the reports about Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the case of Gauri Lankesh's murder writing to the home ministry to up the security of actor-writer Girish Karnad, rationalists KS Bhagawan and Narendra Naik and Nidumamidi Mutt pontiff Veerabhadra Channamalla Swamiji - following threats from right-wing Hindu outfits, the writer-actor Girish Karnad seemed unmoved by it.

When DC approached actor-writer Girish Karnad and asked about the stepped-up security in the backdrop of the threats being given, Mr. Karnad said, "Why don't you ask police? I have nothing to comment on that," before disconnecting the call.
