Andhra Pradesh cops nab Hyderabad boys for stunts on highway

Footage of the act on social network nailed them.

Vijayawada: To make youngsters strictly adhere to traffic rules, Vijayawada Police set an example by registering a case against young bike racers for the first time in the state, for performing stunts on highway.

The arrested A. Nikhil, 23, M. Mahesh, 19, A. Siva, 20, N. Raghuram, 22, Srinivas Praveen, 19 and S. Ranjit, 21, all belong to Hyderabad and are pursuing graduation and under graduation. They had come for an event in Adventura Club of Vijayawada on June 10.

On their way back at night, they performed stunts on Krishnalanka Highway. Katari Krishna, a local resident, complained against these youths. The police registered a case under Section 336 r/w 34 of the IPC and presented them before the court. The court rejected the proposal of the police to remand the arrested youth.

A video taken by a citizen in Vijayawada had become viral on social media network and later on other media. Krishna-lanka Police went through the CCTV footage and the video on the social media network to identify the racers. They approached the Adventura Club and took the mobile numbers of the youths.

Sub inspector P. Ramesh reached to Hyderabad and traced all youths in one day with the help of local police.

Bike maker KTM conducts events to promote its Duke model regularly. Every three months, it will conducts an Orange Day. Such events are conducted after taking permission from Tadepalli police in Guntur district.

The youths have a passion for these events as they get cash prizes if they win.

Usually police conducts counselling in such cases. But, in this case, they directly registered a case and produced them in the court. A relative of the boys said, “They have a passion. They didn’t cause any accident. A man had recorded a video from the rear side. They had not noticed it. They were shocked after seeing the video on the media. Doing stunts on the highway is a mistake. But, instead of counselling them, registering a case will damage the career of these boys.”
