CMDA to hold workshop on expansion of CMA

The officials said the state government had announced the expansion of CMA in 2017 Assembly session.

Chennai: In a bid to draw out a common convention on the eight-fold expansion of Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA), the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has decided to hold a workshop in Ripon Buildings in Chennai.
According to CMDA officials, the workshop would be held on April 23 at Amma Maligai in Ripon Buildings premises.

The officials said the state government had announced the expansion of CMA in 2017 Assembly session. “The expansion will include whole of Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and past of Vellore district. After the expansion, the CMA will extend to 8878 sq.km,” the official said.

CMDA already held a workshop at Tiruvallur district on April 13. “Similar workshop will also be held at Kancheepuram collector office on April 20,” the official said.

Government department officials, consultants, real estate associations, NGOs and others would be allowed to participate in the workshop. Meanwhile, the housing and urban development department released a draft report on expansion on January 22 and had sought public opinion.
