Hyderabad power officials put on notice over interruptions

TS power utilities are prepared to meet even up to 9000 MW peak demand in May compared to 7200 MW peak demand as on date.

Hyderabad: TS energy minister G. Jagadish Reddy on Tuesday warned officials that stringent action will be taken if power breakdowns occur due to their negligence.

“There are no power cuts and interruptions in supply are due to overload on the existing distribution system in the city. Power shutdowns are not to save power or overcome shortage but for repairs at local level,” the minister said after his review meeting on power supply arrangements made by the Discoms for the summer and role of field staff in power interruptions.

TS power utilities are prepared to meet even up to 9000 MW peak demand in May compared to 7200 MW peak demand as on date.

Justifying that the power utilities needed to go for short-term PPAs due to which generation at State Genco plants have been reduced, the minister said as per the PPAs only 15 per cent reduction in total power supply to be given to the state is accepted by private companies in case demand falls.
