Parking meters on Church Street soon?

Now the authorities might revoke the ban if parking meters are installed.

Bengaluru: After the parking ban was introduced on Church Street, the people are unhappy about the decision and questioned the BBMP’s plan of creating parking bays on the stretch. Now the authorities might revoke the ban if parking meters are installed.

R. Hithendra, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said, “The vehicle parking ban is still in place, but now senior officers from departments concerned are thinking of installing automated parking meters, which would keep a check on parking.”

Another senior police officer said that they have not received any information about installing parking meters and the ban will continue. “We heard that the BBMP will install automated parking meters. The parking bays have space for around 16 cars and 40 bikes and for each vehicle, the parking meters will calculate the time and amount for parking,” he said.

When checked, a BBMP officer said, “Discussions are happening and we are thinking of installing the parking meters soon. These meters will be fixed after the price for parking is decided. It is also learnt that there are talks of removing the parking bays and keeping the ban, to make the stretch completely pedestrian. But nothing can be confirmed for now.”
