PALAKKAD: The artistic creations on OV Vijayan memorial that disappeared from the Link Road in the town in 2013 during the beautification works conducted by the municipality have finally resurfaced on the compound of the civic body after five years.

The four artistic creations which were done on the four sides of the memorial including a caricature of OV Vijayan were dumped by the PWD contractor somewhere after demolishing the memorial in 2013 for road development. The works done on panels of cement and concrete which were dumped were eventually found lying in the municipal compound on way to the Town Hall five days ago.

“The concrete panels might have been lying upside down in any of the building or yards of the PWD all this time. Luckily it was recovered, but, the civic body officials did not pay any heed to the re-surfaced creations even after they were found lying on it compound for five days which prompted us to take out a protest by handing over the copy of OV Vijayan works Dharmapurnama to the municipal secretary Regu Raman on Saturday,” cultural activist and YC leader Boban Mattumantha said.

Both Mr Raman and vice-president of the BJP-led council C Krishnakumar have assured the protestors that the memorial will be reinstated at an appropriate place in Palakkad town.
