Visakhapatnam: Film society pays tributes to Mrinal sen

VFS secretary Narava Prakasa Rao said that the Centre must announce Bharath Ratna award for Sen for his contribution to Indian cinema.

Visakhapatnam: The Vizag Film Society on Saturday held a special memorial meeting to pay tribute to legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen on Saturday.

M.V. Raghu, senior cinematographer and director, paid rich tributes to the doyen of parallel cinema after Satyajit Ray. He said the nation has lost one of the pioneers of cinema, who was globally recognised for his depiction of social reality.

The veteran filmmaker had won the lifetime achievement award at the International Film Festival in Thiruvananthpuram in 2009. He was also honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke award and other prestigious recognitions.

VFS secretary Narava Prakasa Rao said that the Centre must announce Bharath Ratna award for Sen for his contribution to Indian cinema. The VFS is affiliated to Federation of Film Societies of India and Member of National Film Archive of India.

After the brief meeting, Sen’s 1980 film Ekdin Pratidin was screened with English subtitles at Visakha Public Library. The film provides a deep insight into the difference in treatment of attitude of people in urban India.
