Warangal: Laddus for not wearing helmet

Police hand out roses to motorists violating rules in Warangal city.

Nizamabad: Warangal Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu on Thursday called on his personnel to stand as role models to all two-wheeler users. He urged them to use helmets whenever they took their two-wheelers on the roads.

He asked the constables and the ‘Blue Colts’ department police, who are on two-wheeler patrol, to always use a helmet while on duty. As a gesture of encouragement, the commissioner has decided to hand out helmets to 30 constables with the words, “I wear helmet. I love my family,” on them.

As part of the week-long road safety awareness campaign being held, the commissionerate police appealed to riders to use helmets and save themselves from fatal injuries during accidents. Taking to Gandhigiri for the cause, instead of imposing fines for not using helmets, roses and laddus were given to the two-wheeler riders who were not using helmets.

The commissioner and other police officials met at Pochamma maidan junction on Thursday and counseled road users on the importance of using a helmet.
The Commissioner said using a helmet not only saves the rider during accidents, but also the families who are dependent on them. He handed over helmets to two persons free of cost and asked them to encourage their friends, colleagues and family members to use helmets.

The campaign was carried out at all the centres under the commissionerate. Drivers of RTC buses, trucks, autorickshaws, four-wheelers and two-wheelers were given roses by police officials and were asked to drive safely to avoid mishaps. Meanwhile, the Telangana State Special Police conducted motor bikes rally on National Highway 44 at Dichpally on Thursday.

As a part of Road Safety Week celebrations, the 7th Battalion officials and constables took part in the rally. Polytechnic and Telangana University students also took part.

Nizamabad police commissioner Kartikeya, Telangana university vice-chancellor P. Sambaiah, 7th Battalion Commandant Y. Srinivas Rao, Nizamabad north ACP D.Anand Kumar, Dichpally CI Tirupati and others were present. The motor bike rally was conducted up to Bibipur thanda on NH-44.
