Child labour: Agents held but traders get away

The traders escape, claiming to have no direct connection with the units.

Hyderabad: After each raid by the police and labour department, only the agents are arrested. The traders escape, claiming to have no direct connection with the units.

They claim that they are only buyers of the manufactured goods, and do not employ any minors. The traders have political connections which keep them safe from the police.

Police has to book cases against offenders under IPC Sections 370 (trafficking) and 374 (unlawful compulsory labour) and under Sections of Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976.

“The agents traffic the kids and take full responsibility for their employment. It’s not possible to book cases against the traders without strong evidence,” said a senior official from South Zone.
