Bengaluru: 17-yr-old brain dead teen saves life

Boy's family gave their consent for his organ donation.

Bengaluru: A seventeen-year-old boy became the savior for a 55-year-old man, who was diagnosed with heart failure.

The boy, a second PUC student, was admitted to Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road on January 12 and was declared brain dead by doctors on Thursday. After counseling, his family gave their consent for organ donation. A green corridor was created with police consent at 10.55 pm on Thursday to transport the heart from Fortis on Bannerghatta Road to Narayana Health City on Hosur Road. It covered the distance in 19 minutes.

The recipient is a businessman and a resident of Domlur. He has been undergoing treatment at Narayana Health City for the past one year and was referred for heart transplant. The recipient has two sons and his wife is a home maker.
