Hyderabad: Pollution up a day before Diwali

Heightened pollution levels were recorded in other parts of the city as well, but conditions were not as critical as they were on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: Pollution levels reached 129 micrograms at Sanathnagar on Wednesday, after a single day of bursting crackers. 60 micrograms is considered to be the safety threshold, and the recorded levels were over double that value.

Heightened pollution levels were recorded in other parts of the city as well, but conditions were not as critical as they were on Tuesday.

Lower temperatures and lower wind speeds exacerbated the problem by causing pollutants to stagnate in the air.

B. Veeranna, a senior scientist of the Pollution Control Board, said, “The air quality has reached unhealthy levels. Pollution caused by vehicles and crackers will take a day to dissipate.”
