Andhra Pradesh: Students urged to fight crime

SP insists that students wear helmets while going to colleges.

Guntur: Guntur Urban SP Ch. Vijaya Rao asked the students to have knowledge about the laws implemented by the government to keep law and order on the track in the society.

He was speaking to the students at Open House programme, conducted as part of Police Commemoration Week, in Guntur on Wednesday.

Mr Viaya Rao interacting with the students and explained them about the duties and responsibilities of the police and functioning of the law agencies.

He said that the public should also cooperate with the police by fighting against illegalities in the societies. The public should consider themselves as police without uniform, he said.

Guntur West DSP K.G.V. Saritha explained about guns, rifles, pistols, AK 47 and other weapons to the students. She explained about the functioning of Locked House Monitoring System and latest equipment used for CCTV surveillance .

An awareness meeting was conducted with the managements of all educational institutions in Guntur urban area. Mr Vijaya Rao, mentioning about the need to wear helmet, said that a majority of the youngsters were dying in road accidents as they were not wearing helmets.

He asked the managements of educational institutions to make helmets a must while coming to college on motorcycles. He urged the educational institutions to conduct awareness programmes on helmet rule, traffic norms and avoiding driving while being a minor.

Additional SP YT Naidu, deputy transport commissioner GC Rajaratnam and others addressed the meeting.
