Govt failed to tackle flood: Ramesh Chennithala

He also termed it as a \'caretaker government\' rejected by the people, citing massive setback in the Lok Sabha polls.

Thrissur: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Sunday lashed out at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for his government's 'failure' in handling the flood situation for the second consecutive time.

He also termed it as a 'caretaker government' rejected by the people, citing massive setback in the Lok Sabha polls.

He was speaking at the INTUC district conference here.

"It is to be noted that during the recent floods, the government machinery did not reach all the camps, and it was the public which raised funds among themselves to run and meet the expenses. After the historic deluge in 2018, the government officials were keen on doing assessments of damages with the clear intention of not allowing proper compensation for the deserved victims," Mr Chennithala said.

He further alleged that while the aid and compensation for the flood relief were not distributed properly, the same government was creating cabinet posts which none of the previous governments did and creating an additional burden on the exchequer.

"As Congress is now in opposition, both at the centre and in the state, the party workers need to be active in taking up public issues," he added.
