Hole in wagon made from inside: H. Raja on train robbery

H. Raja on Thursday claimed that the hole in the cash wagon was made from inside and not from outside as believed by the investigators.

CHENNAI: Giving a new twist to the great train robbery in which Rs 5.75 crore was taken away from a cash wagon attached to Salem—Chennai express on the night of August 8, Tamil Nadu BJP leader and railway passengers amenities committee chairman H. Raja on Thursday claimed that the hole in the cash wagon was made from inside and not from outside as believed by the investigators.

“It looks like that the hole was made from inside and not from top of the roof, using gas cutters and other things. It is not possible to make a hole from the top on a moving train,” he said.

He also told reporters that the Tamil Nadu police, who were in charge of the security of the cash wagon, failed to inform about the huge cash transfer by RBI to the railway protection force. I don’t want to say more about it because police are probing the case,” said Raja, at Perungalathur railway station.

Raja was on his way to the house of an archakar, who was fatally knocked down by a train while crossing the track on Wednesday. The case is currently being probed by CB-CID and so far the police investigating the case believe the hole was made roof from outside. Meanwhile, sources said that police teams are in a few North Indian states like Rajasthan and Bihar and are trying to track five suspects based on mobile phone signal records. “We are summoning old offenders from across the state to conduct enquiry with them. It does not mean they are suspects,” a CBCID official said.
