Rajmohan Unnithan hits out at Kasargod DCC

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is no love lost between the no-nonsense Kasaragod MP Rajmohan Unnithan and the DCC leadership. In a video taken on Monday after he took the oath in the Lok Sabha, Unnithan lashed out at Kasaragod DCC for not accepting his candidature initially. He demanded the removal of DCC president Hakkim Kunnel and attributed his victory to the work done by Muslim League leaders and party workers.

Unnithan had lost his cool the other day when local Congress leaders took the credit for his victory . A leader close to Unnithan told DC that the Muslim League had told the KPCC that the UDF would win in Kasaragod only if a Hindu candidate was fielded.

"Neither the Kasaragod DCC nor the seat aspirants thought that Unnithan would be the UDF candidate. There were issues within the DCC even before the candidate landed there and there was infighting within the 'A' group," said a source.

In the video, Unnithan has rejected the local Congress leaders' claim of facilitating his victory. He said that he would be forced to reveal more if untruths were being spread by leaders, including by KSU and Youth Congress.

Unnithan defeated CPM's K. P. Sathishchandran by more than 40, 000 votes though the local DCC leaders had projected only a victory margin of 20, 000. He wrested the seat from the CPM after three decades. The UDF had previously been fielding minority community candidates.
